Kitahama Station
Kitahama Station, known as in Japanese, is a charming train station located in Abashiri, Hokkaido, Japan. Situated at 45 degrees north latitude and adjacent to the Sea of Okhotsk, it offers a breathtaking view, especially during the winter season. Despite its small and old-fashioned appearance, the station exudes a unique charm, akin to a museum, that has captivated filmmakers and visitors alike. For nearly a hundred years, Kitahama Station has been a popular attraction for its romantic atmosphere. It has been featured in renowned films such as "The Little Mermaid" and "The Encounter of Ge You and Shu Qi in If You Are the One." The station's location also makes it the closest unmanned station to the Sea of Okhotsk in Japan. Visitors to Kitahama Station can experience the beauty of drift ice in the northern hemisphere, taking the slow-paced drift ice Norokko cruise along the coast of the Sea of Okhotsk during the snowy winter. Despite the chilly atmosphere, the station embraces the deep and elegant blue of the sea, creating a truly elegant ambiance. Kitahama Station is a must-visit destination for those seeking a touch of romance and natural beauty.

A small railway station with a small cafe called Teishaba. You won't be entertained if you do not buy food or drink in the cafe. No special scenery there. A wooden observatory deck is stood next to the station, it is free of charge. Free parking is also available for visitors. It is not bad to see the Sea of Okhotsk with summer breeze in the warm season. Meanwhile, drift ice floating on the sea can be seen from the beach in winter time.

Work historic old station that is probably the station closest to the sea. Limited facility with onlY one common toilet and a restaurant. Very good for photo taking on a hot sunny day. Visited by tour buses. Recommended stop 10mins

An unmanned station in front of the Sea of Okhotsk. The station building, which has been in use since the Taisho era, has a nostalgic atmosphere. The walls inside the station building are filled with business cards and photos from both Japan and abroad. Although I was unable to use it due to lack of time, there is a coffee shop inside the station building. There is also an observation deck beside the platform. Although there was almost no drift ice on the day I went, visibility was good and I could see as far as Mt. Rausu. During the drift ice season, it seems that tour groups come in droves from this station. Until then, there had been some room inside the car, but now it was as crowded as rush hour in the city center. Well, I don't think there will be any talk of the line being discontinued if I ride this much on a regular basis...

This is an unmanned station on the JR Senmo Main Line. Facing the Sea of Okhotsk, the station building is very quaint, and the waiting room is covered with business cards and stickers. A very unique space. Also, although business hours are limited, there is a cafe in the waiting room, which you can use if it is open. There aren't many trains, so if you can see a train (or rather, a train) when you visit for touring or driving, you'll be lucky. The toilets are clean, but they are Japanese style. There is also an observatory-like turret next to the station, from which you can overlook the Sea of Okhotsk and the railroad tracks. It's mid-September, but there are a lot of mosquitoes, and if you stay still, they'll stick to your exposed skin, so if you're going to be outside for a long time, you'll need to take precautions. . .

This is a secret station that is famous for its proximity to the sea. When you get off the platform, you can see the magnificent scenery of the Sea of Okhotsk and the Shiretoko Mountain Range right in front of you. Since it was early spring, the drift ice had retreated far offshore, but it was still visible from the platform's observation deck. There is a coffee shop attached to the station building, but it was not open because it was early in the morning.
